Welcome all to a new season of our famous Winter Racing Series. The season began with a pre-season stage, and without the East Coast participating it was an all Vancouver affair! The stage was a 23.66km mixture of climbs, descents, and flat terrain. Just what you guys needed to prepare for the next 12 races!
Last year’s winner, Roger Lee, started this year as he ended last. He won the stage with a time of 38:43.2 and stamped his name as the guy to beat this year, so congratulations to you Roger. The closest battle of the week was between Lee Ryan (2nd place), and Dale Ewanchuk (3rd place). Dale had the early lead but then Lee picked up the pace and would eventually win that heat, only 13 seconds in front of Dale! To get a time within 42 minutes seemed popular this week, if only those guys were in the same heat we would have witnessed an incredible battle.
Gail Sawers put in an impressive time for the women, with what seemed an unbeatable time. But then Nancy Mclachlan came along and showed she can hang with the guys also, putting in a time of 45:07.6, the fasted woman this week. Gail places second with a time of 48:17.8, and rounding off third place was Carolyn Hubbard, a shade behind Gail with a time of 48:22.4. Also a big congratulations to first time racers Catherine Turcotte and Karissa Rennie who both pushed themselves all the way. This is what the series is all about!

Saturday marks the beginning of a exciting and promising series. New interns Adam Brazil and Alex Willis plan on making their debuts, and Mike McIvor himself is also scheduling in a race! To make things even more interesting the East Coast will be mixing it up with riders from Ottawa also racing the first stage, which is the legendary Original Time Trial Stage.

The series is designed for fun and fitness and will be the toughest Zone 3 or lactate threshold training you do all winter. The Fall Series starts on September 17th 2011 and runs until December 20th. The Winter Series starts on January 7th and runs until March 27, 2012. Heats run on Saturday afternoons, Monday evenings, Tuesday mornings and evenings in groups of 6 riders on linked CompuTrainers at the Peak Centre. The series is for all levels of ability so come for the racing or come for the training and social aspect of it. Everyone is welcome so book your heat and start time by calling the Peak Centre at 604-299-7959.
The original time trial course will be the only course that is repeated throughout the series. Every other course will be new for the series. Stage, General Classification (GC) and point leaders in the Sprint and King of the Mountains categories will be presented along the way to see who the leaders are based on the times posted, points collected and individual improvements. The results will be divided into 3 categories. Men’s A, Men’s B, and Women’s and will appear weekly. Schedules, heat times and pricing are available on our website or give us a call to reserve your heat time.
We hope to see you out at the races!
