Not since the end of October, when Todd Reichert (Peak Centre, Ottawa) won stage 4 has anyone been able to stand in the way of Dwayne Kress (Challenge by Choice, Squamish) in the Peak Centre Indoor Racing Series. Kress made it six wins in a row with a storming time of 35:24.7, over a minute ahead of second place Roger Lee (Peak Centre, Vancouver). Those two riders continue to secure their places at the top of the General Classification standings ahead of Teklit Tesfay (Eritrea; 4th on the stage in 36:47.5) who currently holds the third podium spot. Sean Anderson (SBR Coaching, Verona) and Marcel Lavoie (Peak Centre, Ottawa) will hope their good late-season form will help close a 19 and 20 points gap respectively in their bids to take 3rd place away from Tesfay. Anderson was 3rd on the stage in 36:41.6 and Lavoie was 5th in 36:55.0.

Kerri Labrecque (Peak Centre, Ottawa) maintained her 100% win record with a great win in 39:34.2. Those wins have come too late in the season for Labrecque to make a bid for GC honours, but second place finisher Summer Ohlendorf (SBR Coaching, Verona; 41:05.5) could still make a late bid for a podium spot, with a 12 point gap to close to 3rd placed Grace Menning (Peak Centre, Vancouver). It will be too late for Ohlendorf to catch Sarah Greenwood (Challenge by Choice, Squamish) who reinforced her second place on GC, and put pressure on overall leader Shea Rankin (The Cycle Studio, Carmel) with a third place finish on the stage in 41:52.6.

Two riders from Challenge by Choice, Squamish stormed ahead of the rest of their rivals in the Men’s B classification, but could only be separated by 2 seconds for the stage win. Martin C (37:45.0) edged out Mike Kleso (37:47.4) to take the points. Had the riders finished the other way around, Kleso would have climbed onto the podium spots with just two stages to go. Unlike the A classifications, things are tight at the top of the Men’s B competition, with 2nd place on GC Patrick Melfi (Centre Entrainement Cyclisme VeloCite, Blainville) closing the gap to overall leader Mark Scott (Peak Centre, Ottawa; 8th in 40:43.3) to just 7 points with his 3rd place finish.

Megan Davies (Peak Centre, Vancouver) took over the overall lead in the Women’s B classification with another stage victory in 44:25.3. She finished just ahead of Jenn A (Peak Centre, Ottawa) who finished in 45:33.2. Christiane Gagne (Centre Entrainement Cyclisme VeloCite, Blainville; 46:08.1), who drops to second on GC just 6 points behind Davies was just pipped for 3rd by Jacinthe Vadeboncoeur (Peak Centre, Ottawa; 45:44.8).

Stage 10 also saw battle resume in the sprint competition. Again, Dwayne Kress stamped his authority on his opponents hitting a season-high 13.96 Watts/kg (1140 Watts) to take maximum points on the stage, and the overall victory in the sprints classification. Teammate Schneider Volker (Challenge by Choice, Squamish) was Kress’ closest challenger, hitting 13.74 Watts/kg (1122 Watts). Tony Zackery (Peak Centre, Vancouver) recovered from a puncture early in the stage to take 3rd with a sprint of 11.85 Watts/kg (1070 Watts).

There were also some huge Watts in the women’s competition, with Myriam Burton (Peak Centre, Ottawa) hitting an impressive 10.41 Watts/kg (642 Watts). Jenni Chancey (Challenge by Choice, Squamish) was close behind on 10.34 Watts/kg (563 Watts) and Sheena Harris made it four out of the six podium spots for Challenge by Choice with a 3rd place score of 9.84 Watts/kg (625 Watts).

Next week is the last chance for the climbers ahead of the season-closing Original Time Trial.
