Can anyone challenge Jay and Rebecca?
This week saw riders race the famed Original Time Trial, where riders had the opportunity to gain valuable bonus points if they were able to beat their OTT time from Stage 1. In Men’s Cat A, Jay Menning (Peak Centre Vancouver) retains top spot and keeps his 100% winning record alive with a time of 38:07, missing out on the bonus points by 8 seconds. Kit Wellburn (Peak Centre Vancouver) grabbed second place and smashed his Stage 1 OTT time by over a minute, meaning he gets the 3 point bonus. Shawn Willis (In Training, San Ramon) managed to secure third place with a great time of 39:06, however he missed out on the bonus points this time. In the general classification, Ryan Krauss (Natural High) took advantage of Michael Holtz’s slip up and slides into third, meaning he is one step closer to Jay Menning and Shawn Willis who are still firmly placed in 1st and 2nd respectively. Will Michael be able to regain that all important final podium spot next week?
In Men’s Cat B, it was Rick Cordes (In Training, San Ramon) who takes first place once more with a time of 40:15, which wasn’t enough for him to get the bonus points. Joe Haimowitz (Peak Centre Ottawa) will take plenty of confidence from his performance this week, as he finished only 7 seconds behind Rick and will be looking to chase down Dan Giberson (Natural High, Okotoks) for that second place in the Overall Classification. A sprint finish was needed to separate Alex Stewart (Peak Centre Ottawa), Glade Schoenfeld (Perak centre Vancouver), John Lee (Peak Centre Vancouver), Bob Cimon (Peak Centre Ottawa) and Gaetan Boulanger (Peak Centre Ottawa), as they all finished within 4 seconds of each other. Not many of the racers in this category managed to grab the bonus points this week, so well done to all those who improved their OTT times!
There was a low turnout in the Women’s Cat A this week meaning there were many points up for grabs. Calah Wright (Peak Centre Ottawa) claims the gold medal position with a 42:30, almost 3 minutes faster than second placed Shannon Winslade (Natural High, Okotoks), who moves into joint first place with Jen Buck (Natural High Okotoks) in the general classification. In Women’s Cat B, Rebecca Yi (In Training, San Ramon) continues to dominate, finishing the OTT in 45:47, improving her time by over 30 seconds. Megan Davies (Peak Centre Vancouver) finishes in second place for the first time in this racing series. Clocking in at 48:24. Marni Hutschinson put in a great effort this week, claiming third place with respectable 49:20. Despite finishing in fourth this week, Lucette Laflamme (Peak Centre Ottawa) still managed to improve her OTT time and remain in second in the general classification.
