The Winter Racing Series is now in full swing, its great to see several returning centers as well as new affiliates joining to make it an exciting series. Week one saw athletes face a challenging rolling course, which guaranteed some interesting results.
In the Men’s A Category; which included all athletes who achieved a time below 41 minutes , it was Jay Menning (Peak Vancouver; 36:18) who took the top spot for the first race of the series with a convincing lead of 40 seconds over fellow Peak Vancouver athletes Rob Johnston in second (37:00). Ryan Krauss (Natural High; 37:31) returned to the winter series showing that he once again will be a contender for the top spot as he took the final podium position this week and the top three in the General Classification (GC)
The Men’s B category was also highly contested. Dan Giberson (Natural High) topped the leader board recording a time of 41:00. Paul Heffler (Peak Ottawa;41:03) was not far behind showing already that the racing will be an exciting affair this season with very little separating the athletes. Peak Ottawa’s Darrin Grace was next to cross the finish line in third with a time of 41:13 to round out the podium and set the first standings of the GC.
In the Women’s category Janet Dukowski (Peak Vancouver) returned in fine form to the Winter Series, to once again claim the top spot in 40:29. Peak Ottawa put in a great team performance dominating the next 4 positions, with Calah Wright (41:16) and Carol Deavy (44:30) taking second and third position. These women will have to keep up the great racing to hold off the other women if they want to continue to top the GC.
Great Racing , I hope you all enjoyed it!
Good luck for the rest of the series.
