Stage 11 Report
This week saw the rider’s race over a challenging Hilly course, with it also being the last stage to gain King of the Mountain (KoM) points with the victors being crowned.
In the Men’s race, once again Mark Sherboneau (Peak Ottawa) was the clear winner of the stage with a time of 36:26 to second place finisher Marcel Lavoie (Peak Ottawa; 37:23) who made the podium for the first time. Rounding out the top three was consistent performer Ryan Krauss (Natural High; 37:32) who has not yet finished outside of the top three all season.
In the KoM competition, Ryan Krauss is this fall’s King after culminating 44 points this series. Congratulations Ryan!! Once again Mark Sherboneau (Peak Ottawa) was in contention and was just behind with 37 points. Finishing third in the KoM was Peak Ottawa’s Colin Kelly with 34 points.
With one stage to go, the General Classification (GC) is taking shape, and it looks as if Mark Sherboneau will hold on to the top spot unless something dramatic happens next week, he currently sits with 177 points. With close rival Ryan Krauss on his heel with 153 points, while Jeff Orr is holding on to third with 95 points with riders closing in on him.
On the women’s side this week, it was very much dominated by Peak Centre athletes, with Janet Dukowski (Peak Vancouver) taking the win with a very clear winning margin in 38:29. Peak Ottawa’s Laurie Gorman produced a great ride to finish second (43:32) with fellow Ottawa athlete Lisa Sachsalaber in third (44:41).
The Queen of the Mountain title has been awarded to Janet Dukowski with 40 points! Great Job Janet. Taking second place is Laurie Gorman (Peak Ottawa) with 34 points and rounding of the QoM podium is Natalie Tasker (Peak Ottawa) who achieved 29 points.
In the GC Britta Samuels (Double Diamond) with 140 points is narrowly holding off Janet Dukowski (Peak Vancouver) who is only 5 points behind, will Britta race next week and be able to hold the title? Rounding out the top three after 11 stages is Laurie Gorman (Peak Ottawa) with 114 points.
Another fantastic and exciting set of results this week, great work to all.
Good luck for next week, the final stage of the series. Who will be awarded the yellow jersey and the coveted GC title?
