    WHISTLER GRANFONDO TRAINING PROGRAM

    Cost: $199 + tax per month (3 month minimum)

    WHAT IS THE WHISTLER GRANFONDO TRAINING PROGRAM?

    The Whistler GranFondo Training Program is an integrated, full service program that combines state of the art physical assessment, individualized exercise prescription, periodic performance review, hardware, software and analytical services, designed to prepare you for one of the best cycling events of the year! This program can be done at home, individually or within a group environment at our training facility or outdoors.

    Followed properly, this program will allow you to focus your training in the correct areas, in order to perform at your best during the Whistler GranFondo. It will push your body to stress the necessary muscles for continued improvement by locking you into your individual training zones and ensuring quality training. No more wasted hours!!!

    INDIVIDUAL TRAINING ZONES: THE KEY TO PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS

    The Peak Centre’s Training System is designed to develop an athlete through specific, scientific and individual needs. Our physiologists do this through precise Training Zone determination. Each aerobic training zone is dedicated toward improving a specific aspect of performance.

    Zones 1, 3 & 5 are specific physiological parameters that must be precisely trained for performance improvements.

    Zones 2 & 4 are used for the development of specific needs depending on the intensity and duration requirements of the cycling event in which the athlete is involved (i.e. road racing, triathlon, mountain biking).

    The key to determining training zones is accurate blood lactate analysis at several exercise intensity levels. Precision of intensity levels is guaranteed through the use of the most accurate cycling ergometer on the market, the CompuTrainer™. After thorough analysis of the assessment information, Peak Centre exercise physiologists can precisely determine an athlete’s individual aerobic training zones.

    THE WHISTLER GRANFONDO CYCLING PROGRAM INCLUDES:

    • Accurate lactate testing every 3 months
    • Development of Individual Training Zones (Watts and heart rate)
    • VO2 Max assessment
    • Energy usage analysis for race day nutrition planning
    • Monthly training program design
    • Periodized program progression
    • Program monitoring with experienced Peak Centre Exercise Physiologist
    • Pedal Stroke Analysis
    • Access to CompuTrainers, training facility and equipment
    • Nutritional analysis (optional)

    OUTDOOR CYCLING CLASSES INCLUDED

    Joining the Whislter GranFondo Training Program will also get you 50% OFF the outdoor cycling classes at the Peak Centre. The first block will be tarting on Tuesday May 17th at 6:30pm for 8 weeks (usually $140, down to $70!). The second block then runs from Tuesday July 15th and Thursday July 17th at 6:30pm for 7 weeks (worth $130, down to 75!).

    Peak Centre Vancouver is a preferred training facility of the RBC GranFondo Whistler and we offer a clinic to get you in the best shape possible for the ride.

    Features of the clinic include:

    – 2 weekly coached rides grouped by ability (all levels welcome)

    – weekly long ride buidling volume towards race day including proper taper (Saturday mornings)

    – weekly hill session to build power and improve climbing (Tuesday evenings)

    – Lactate test at the beginning of the program to measure individual training zones and ensure optimal training

    – Training program tailored to your individual needs designed to peak your performance for GranFondo Whistler (includes strength & flexibility training to keep you healthy)

    – Info sessions on training smarter (not harder!), fuelling & nutrition, strength training for cyclists, etc.

    Zone 1 Riding Club

    We all know the importance of our zone 1 training! However, it can get lonely on those long rides, so we’ve set up a way for you to meet riders with similar zones so you can hit the road together and get some serious miles under your belt!

    All it involves is putting your zone details and email address into this spreadsheet and you can find lots of riding partners of a similar level, to help those sessions go a little faster and also meet some great people!

      Weekend Ride Only

      • 1 lactate zone check at the beginning of the program (regular price $145 each)
      • Optional second assessment at the individual heart rate and power based training zones
      • 10 Saturday morning 2hr open rides on the CompuTrainer multi-rider software on courses like IMC, IM Hawaii, Vancouver-Whistler route, IM Arizona, IM Lake Placid, etc.

      • Cost $20 per ride OR $250 for 10 weeks package (price includes blood lactate assessment worth $145 + tax)

      Overview

      These sessions are run on the CompuTrainer using the MultiRider software and Real Course Video software. They will take place on various courses like the Ironman Canada course, Ironman Kona course, the Vancouver to Whistler route, Ironman Coeur D’Alene course and Ironman Arizona course. Courses will alternate each week and be based on popular choice. The MultiRider software controls the trainer resistance so you’re shifting like you would if riding outside.
